Eugene a Bunny tale

Eugene was born at the edge of the warren.
As he grew he heard so often,"Look, Listen, and remember
what the Great Wise Rabbit said.
Life was happy and full of wonder.

But there was so much to remember.
Only eat sweet clover, never the small red berries.
The field mouse is your friend the fox is not.
Stay in the pasture close to home.

As Eugene grew he would always test the boundries
One day following a fence row to a white gate, he found
a garden of vegetables. He ate the tender lettuce. He tried the
the carrots, and he met the farmers dog. Run Eugene Run!!!!

Another day He travelled to the edge of the warren,
He discovered a stream wide and fast. He drank it's
cool water, and splashed.
Then the current swept him in. Swim Eugene Swim!!!

Each time he got into trouble his Mother would scold him
Remember what the Great Wise Rabbit said,"look, listen
and stay close to home. Only eat the sweet clover, not the red berries.
The field mouse is your friend and the fox is not.

But Eugene would always test his boundaries.
One day he traveled so far to the edge of the forest.
Before him was a wide roadway with cars and trucks.
He ran back and forth it was exciting, A car came and.....

Now I know what you're thinking.
But that day his Mother saved him.
She pulled him back. But when she did so
She was hit in the head and never came back.

Eugene didn't know what to do.
The Great Wise Rabbit words made less sense to him now.
How could they to a young Rabbit.
He felt so small and alone.

I will never come out of my house thought Eugene.
But soon he got so hungry, I must eat.
I will eat the red berries, then perhaps I can be with Mother.
So he ate so many that he became sick.

But he awoke the next day, No Mother. Only a dizzy head.
So he went to the stream, fast and wide,
but today it ran slow and shallow.
So he drank some and went home.

Eugene would wake up each day and try
to think of a new way to be with his mother.
Temp the dog or the fox but each time he
would get scared and run home.

One day Eugene found himself on the edge of the forest.
Coming back from a day of running across the road.
He met a very old Rabbit, "Where are you going ?" said the old rabbit.
Eugene told him of his trouble, not being able to get run over to be with his mother.

The old rabbit turned to him and said,"It will happen soon enough."
Maybe if you quit trying so hard. You would find out it's not so bad.
Come with me I will teach you, tomorrow we will start with
Only eat sweet clover...........

For Mike RIP
